Newsletter No. 10

Thursday, 30th March, 2006

During this term Units of Work throughout the school have had a common focus - deepening student’s awareness of the plight of the poor and oppressed within our world.  Through these Units of Work, Religious Education, the Project Compassion Appeal and prayer, the children have been developing an awareness and a deeper understanding and commitment to those in need.  We are challenging students to enter into an understanding that each one of us has a fundamental responsibility to respond to the poor in our midst and within our world.

Parents as the first and most influential teachers of your children have a significant role in promoting justice.  It will be through your discussions on the plight of the poor and by displaying a generous spirit towards the oppressed, that your child will develop an empathy and social responsibility to respond to those in need in our world.

Our thanks goes out to your generous support of the fund raising ventures that each Stage has been involved in this term.  The student’s efforts continue with a cake stall this today organised by Upper Stage, The monster Easter Raffle organised by Early Stage with the help of  Mr Byrne and the children of UB and the pre-school Easter Hat Parade.  Our donation to “Cowitas” is looking very promising.  Thank You!!

Love for others, and in the first place love for the poor,

in whom the Church sees Christ,

is made concrete in the promotion of justice.

Justice will never be fully attained unless people see in the poor person,

who is asking for help in order to survive,

not an annoyance or a burden,

but an opportunity for showing kindness and a chance for greater enrichment.

Only such an awareness can give the courage needed to face the risk

and the change involved in every authentic attempt

to come to the aid of another.

John Paul II, Centesimus Annus, 1991,#58

In the words of Martin Luther King,

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent

about the things that matter.”

Carpark

Progress is again being made with the Bottlebrush Drive carpark. It should be complete by the end of the school holidays but will not be used until after the opening ceremony which will be early in Term 2 on a date yet to be co-ordinated. This carpark has been donated to us so it is essential that we recognize the contributors both in celebration and in information to the media. We are proposing a parade of vehicles (vintage, decorated or unusual). These vehicles will enter the carpark during our opening celebration and park in the carpark. Parents, please start planning ahead and dust off your vintage cars, decorate the motor bike or start planning your decorations!
