Newsletter No. 6
Loving
God, be with us as we grow closer
to You during Lent.
Through
the ashes of Ash Wednesday,
help us grow to be better
people,
who love You
and care for each other.
Dear Friends,
Yesterday was Ash Wednesday. Unfortunately, because of the rain, the
children from Middle and Upper Stages were not able to walk up to the church
for the mass. However, depending on the
weather, they will celebrate mass on Friday at the church at
Mrs. Gawne’s class will lead
us in celebrating the mass (or liturgy).
The Early and Lower Stage children celebrated their
liturgy in Mrs Hebron’s classroom. Mrs
Hebron’s class led us in prayer. The
children reminded us that Lent begins with the signing of ashes and ends with
our great celebration of Easter. Lent is
a time to take action. It’s God’s
invitation to us to become better people.
The ashes remind us that now is the time for us
to turn away from our selfish ways and live like Jesus wants.
Traditionally during Lent, the Sacred Heart Community
takes on projects to raise money for Project Compassion. I have enclosed a letter from Archbishop
Adrian L Doyle, Chairperson for Caritas
As a school we will once again be involved in Project Compassion. Representatives from Caritas
Project Compassion boxes are being sent home with this
Newsletter. Maybe your family could set
a personal goal to Help
Make Poverty History. The
brochure that also accompanies this newsletter outlines ‘Stories of hope and
Promise’ and illustrates where “Compassion in Action” can make a
difference.
Also enclosed with this week’s newsletter is the 2006
Diocesan Lenten Program. It includes: a letter from Bishop Heenan
encouraging us to embrace this period of Lent as a valuable opportunity to grow
in our faith, plus readings, reflections and prayers for the five weeks of
Lent. It is an invitation for personal
reflection during Lent or it can be used for group discussions with family
and/or friends as the week’s progress towards Easter.

St Patrick’s Races
Today an advertising flyer for the St Patrick’s Races
for 2006 has been included with this newsletter. Each Catholic school in the
Rockhampton region received $3500 as a result of the successful race meeting in
2005. We are very grateful for this money as it is being used to pay for the
contract mowing of the oval, fertilizing and general oval infrastructure.
Please consider attending this year’s event.
Issue 2 leaflets for Wombat, Lucky, Arrow and Star
Book Clubs were sent home this week. Orders together with the correct money are

Get Active Queensland Schools
Program
Our school will take part in this program which is a
Queensland Government initiative to help schools motivate students to get
active using noted Queensland Academy of Sport athletes to speak to students
and lead them through some basic physical activities.
On Monday 6 March, the following athletes will be
visiting the Upper Stage Classes:
Robert McDonald – swimming
Ellen Seaniger
– softball
James Spargo
– cricket.
The athletes will be conducting an Activity Session
with a games and skills focus and a Healthy Lifestyle Presentation focusing on
the benefits of an active lifestyle.
NEW JOURNEY GROUPS
Welcome to Mrs. Michele Connors who is taking our
additional Journey Groups in Lower English and Upper Maths.
The journey groups in these stages have been
rearranged. Students have been
reallocated into the new journey groups.
The new journey groups have been formed taking into consideration the
academic needs of all students. The new
journey group classes started last Friday.
As classroom space is at a minimum the new classes are being
accommodated in the Staff Room and in the newly refurbished Performing Arts
Studio.
These changes allow for reduced numbers in all journey
groups in Lower English and Upper Maths, assisting the teachers to cater for
the individual learning needs of all students.

The competitors were all waiting to start. The gorilla was in lane one and the hyena was in lane two. They
were both standing as still as statues while the water mocked them with its
